The global trauma and challenges of recent months have created an emotional rollercoaster for so many. I was given the opportunity to explore some of my thoughts and personal experiences through a call for art ‘Paint in a time of Crisis’. The scope of the work was to highlight how paint could be both a commentary on the pandemic and a means for coping. Here’s my response: “Tumultuous Times”
The surgical masks are made of dried and peeled paint layers, fashioned with elastics.
The rainbow palette, reflective paints, and shimmering mica alter the composition’s lighting effects and are a commentary on our changing world. In many respects, recuperating as humanity remains in quarantine.
Phosphorescent paint appears as the ‘vigil’ light in each doorway paying tribute to those who have died.
This is brilliant! You captured today’s world’s state of human consciousness. I feel the emotions, the sense of struggle and loss. I also see and feel the promise of better days and a better world ahead. Love this 🤍
